We are fans of The Pig hotels and have long wanted to visit the Pig on the Beach in Dorset. We finally managed to book a room for a New Years Eve stay with friends. And we had a lovely time. If you’re looking for a cosy place to stay on the UK coast, then it’s definitely somewhere to add to your wish-list.
Location
The special feature of this Pig, as the name suggests, is the stunning location overlooking Studland Bay in Dorset. We wrapped up warm for a NY Eve walk on the beach, with tea and Victoria sponge as a reward when we got back!

Inside
The hotel has the cosy, “shabby chic” style of The Pig we like, with snug sofa areas and log fires. There are several areas for hanging out, including a bar and a snug which is reserved for hotel residents.

Dining
The hotel has the Pig’s “25 mile menu”: delicious food made with local ingredients, including the hotel’s own garden. Our favourite spot was the light and airy conservatory, with views out to the sea. The restaurant also has an extensive if slightly pricey wine list.
The outdoor pizza oven and terrace was closed for the winter, so we’ll have to return in the summer to try that out!

Rooms
Rooms have the same cosy country feel as the common areas of the hotel, with Roberts radios and vintage furniture. We went for the mid-range “Comfy” room, slightly larger than the smaller “Snug” rooms.

Rates
Prices at The Pig do seem to have gone up and it’s less affordable than it used to be. Our Comfy room is now £325 a night without breakfast for a weekend in January. Larger Generous rooms will set you back £495.
In conclusion, The Pig on the Beach is a lovely, cosy, coastal country hotel with a great location right on the seaside. Despite the prices being more than before, we would go back for a summer break to enjoy the beach and the outside eating area.
